Chinese Government Scholarship Postgraduate Program


In order to enhance mutual understanding and friendship between the Chinese people and people around the world, and to develop exchanges and cooperation between China and other countries in the fields of education, science and technology, culture, economy and trade, the Chinese government has set up the Chinese Government Scholarship to fund students and scholars from all over the world to study and research in Chinese universities. With the approval of the Ministry of Education of China, University of Jinan has begun to accept outstanding foreign master’s and doctoral students who have received Chinese government scholarships since 2013.

I. About UJN

University of Jinan is a key and comprehensive university jointly built by the Shandong Provincial Government and the Ministry of Education of China. It is one of the first batch of distinguished university committed to cultivating applied talents, and offers bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degree programs.

University of Jinan has four campuses covering a total area of 2.43 million square meters. It currently has 23 schools, 5 postdoctoral research stations and more than 38,000 full-time students. The majors cover 11 categories including economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, medicine, management, art, and interdisciplinary. 9 disciplines ranked in the top 1% of global ESI.

University of Jinan has promoted policies of opening-up and internationalization. It has established international cooperative relationships with 120 international counterparts in countries including the U.S., U.K., Germany, France, Canada, Australia, Russia, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, etc. It has also established a Confucius Institute in the Republic of the Congo, and 3 international and regional study centers, including the Center for the Iceland Studies, the Center for the Study of Francophone Africa and the Center for the Study of the Caribbean. Up till now, more than 4000 international students have graduated from the university.

II. Scholarship Overview

III. Eligibility

- be a citizen of a country other than the People’s Republic of China, and be in good health both mentally and physically;

- be a bachelor’s degree holder under the age of 35 when applying for master’s programs;

- be a master’s degree holder under the age of 40 when applying for doctoral programs;

- have acquired the Chinese proficiency of HSK Level 4 when applying for Chinese taught master’s or doctoral programs;

- students applying for English taught programs should come from countries where English is the mother tongue or official language, or graduate from English taught major or have English language proficiency of IELTS 6.0/ TOEFL 70/ Duolingo English Test 100/ EF SET 60 or above;

- applicants’ GPA should be no less than 3.0/4 (5-point and 100-point scores can be converted accordingly).

IV. Application Procedure

1. Please visit http://www.campuschina.org and apply for the scholarship by reference to the application instructions within the time limits. The agency number of the University of Jinan is 10427. Please choose program category-Type B. After application, please re-apply on http://admission.isao.ujn.edu.cn/, otherwise, you will not be eligible to be recommended by the University of Jinan.

2. For the applicants who submit the application in accordance with the requirements, the University of Jinan will send a pre-admission notice to the applicants who have passed the review of the university by email.

3. Before March 15, applicants who have received the pre-admission notice should complete their materials and submission in both two systems according to the requirements of the University of Jinan. CSC will reject those who do not upload their pre-admission notice, so please make sure you do so as required.

V. Required Documents

All documents should be in/translated into Chinese or English, and for materials other than Chinese/English, please submit both translated and original copies. Each applicant should submit his/her:

- Application Form (please fill all the applicable items);

- Scanned copy of passport (passport validity should be more than 12 months);

- Physical Examination Report (valid for 6 months);

- Notarized Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree (if not yet graduated, please submit the pre-graduation certificate);

- Academic Transcript (applicants for doctoral programs should submit transcripts of both Bachelor’s and Master’s degree);

- Study Plan (written in Chinese/English and more than 1,000 words, and the study plan of doctoral program applicants must be signed by the supervisor from University of Jinan);

- Two letters of recommendation from two associate professors or higher;

- HSK Certificate (required for Chinese-taught programs)/IELTS, TOEFL, Duolingo Test, EF SET Result (required for English-taught programs);

- Certificate of employment (if formally employed) ;

- Certificate of non-criminal records (valid for 6 months);

- Supervisor’s Acceptance Letter (supervisors’ information here: https://yz.ujn.edu.cn/dsxx.htm).

Note:

1. For documents in non-Chinese or English, a Chinese or English translation from the notarization or issuing institute must be attached.

2. The applicant shall ensure that the information and materials submitted are clear, authentic and valid. If there is any inauthenticity, the applicant’s admission and scholarship qualifications will be canceled.

3. Please ensure that the materials submitted on the http://www.campuschina.org are consistent with the http://admission.isao.ujn.edu.cn/. The China Scholarship Council (CSC) will organize experts to conduct a final review of the applicants recommended by universities, and the application materials will be used as an important basis for the final scholarship result (not every student recommended by universities will eventually be awarded a scholarship).

VII. Discipline and Annual Review

1. The scholarship recipients are required to study full-time at the University of Jinan, during which they should strictly abide by the school and scholarship management regulations, and should submit an application and a letter of consent from the supervisor and the school if there are any special circumstances. Those who deliberately violate the relevant regulations may be suspended or disqualified from the scholarship.

2. According to the regulations of the China Scholarship Council, students of this program are required to participate in the annual review of the scholarship every year. Those who fail to pass the annual review will be suspended or disqualified from the scholarship.

3. According to the regulations of the China Scholarship Council, those who are awarded Chinese Government Scholarship are not eligible for other scholarships set up by the Chinese government or University of Jinan at all levels at the same time.

VIII. Admission & Registration

1. The final admission result will be subject to China Scholarship Council, and the university will send the official admission notice and other materials to the applicants who are awarded the scholarship.

2. The scholarship recipients cannot change the institution, program, language of instruction, or duration of study as stated in the admission notice.

3. Admitted applicants should apply for a visa to study in China at the Chinese embassy (consulate) with the original copies of their passports, Admission Notice, JW201 and Foreigner Physical Examination Form, and should enter China with the originals of the above documents.

4. After enrolling and paying the required tuition, applicants should finish the procedures for residence in China in Jinan Exit-Entry Administration Bureau within 30 days (Materials required include the passport, Admission Notice, JW201, and Foreigner’s Physical Examination Certificate).
