Shandong Provincial Government Scholarship

The Shandong Provincial Government Scholarship (hereinafter referred to as the Scholarship) is a full scholarship set up by the Shandong Provincial Government for outstanding foreign students who come to study in Shandong Province. The University of Jinan is one of the first batch of universities qualified to offer this scholarship.

1. About the Scholarship

(1) Supporting Categories: Bachelor Candidates, Masters Candidates

(2) Duration: 4 years for undergraduate programs (5 years for the major of Urban and Rural Planning), 3 years for Masters degree programs (2 years for the major of International Chinese Education).

(3) Value of Award:

2. Programs

(1) Non-Degree Programs

Chinese Language and Culture Program

Based on your Chinese level, there are 6 different levels from the very beginning to advanced, there are about 20 credit hours language courses per week, plus some cultural courses in the afternoon.

Main courses: Speaking, Listening, Grammar, Reading and Writing.

Selective courses: Chinese Culture, Chinese Calligraphy, Traditional Dance, Chinese Painting, Peking Opera, Tai Chi, Tea Art, Paper Cutting and HSK tutorial etc.

Duration: Spring term: Feb. to July; Autumn term: Sept. to Jan.

(2) Degree Program

The normal study period for degree students: 4 years for undergraduate programs (5 years for the major of Urban and Rural Planning), 3 years for Master’s degree programs (2 years for the major of International Chinese Education).

3. Admission Requirements

(1) About Applicants

- be a citizen of a country other than the People’s Republic of China, and be in good health both mentally and physically;

- be a bachelor’s degree holder under the age of 35 when applying for master’s programs;

- be a High school diploma holder under the age of 30 when applying for doctoral programs;

- have acquired the Chinese proficiency of HSK Level 4 when applying for Chines taught programs;

- students applying for English taught programs should come from countries where English is the mother tongue or official language, or graduate from English taught major or have English language proficiency of IELTS 6.0/ TOEFL 70/ Duolingo English Test 100 or above.

(2) Required Documents

All documents should be in/translated into Chinese or English. Each applicant should submit his/her:

①Application form (please fill all the applicable items);

②Scanned copy of passport(Passport validity should be more than 18 months for students who apply for programs longer than 6 months);

③Graduation certificate or study certificate (if not graduated);

④Physical Examination Report;

⑤Statement of Financial Support;

⑥For those who graduate more than two years: Certification of latest employment (if formally employed) or certificate of non-criminal records (if unemployed in recent years).


In addition, students who apply for degree programs must provide the following documents:

Bachelor’s Candidate:

⑦ Senior high school graduation certificate(notarized);

⑧ Senior high school academic transcript;

⑨ For Chinese taught program, the language requirement is HSK level 4 or above.

Master’s Candidate:

⑦Bachelor’s Degree(notarized);

⑧ Academic Transcript;

⑨Study Plan;

⑩Two letters of recommendation from two associate professors or higher;

⑪ For Chinese taught program, the language requirement is HSK level 5 or above.


NOTE: If students are currently studying in China, please add the following documents:

① Graduation Certificate or Study Certificate and Transcript from previous school;

② Scanned copy of information page of passport and the page with entry stamp, residence permit page or X2 visa page;

③ Transfer Letter or Certificate of Completion and transcript from prior institution.

Students are required to present the original copies of all application materials for the school's review of scholarship eligibility upon registration. Students who fail to pass the review will be disqualified from the scholarship.

4. Admission&Notification

(1) The university will review the materials of scholarship applicants.

(2) Students who have been awarded scholarships are not allowed to change their majors and study periods specified in the admission notice.

(3) After admission, the University of Jinan will send the admission notice and JW202 to the applicant.

(4) Admitted applicants should apply for a visa to study in China at the Chinese embassy (consulate) with the original copies of their passports, Admission Notice, JW202 and Foreigner Physical Examination Form, and should enter China with the originals of the above documents.

(5) After enrolling and paying the required tuition, applicants should finish the procedures for residence in China in Jinan Exit-Entry Administration Bureau within 30 days (Materials required include the passport, Admission Notice, JW202, and Foreigner's Physical Examination Certificate).
